Surge Protection

We've Got You Covered

A surge protection system is hardwired to the service panel. When a power surge occurs, the system instantly diverts the damaging voltage to a ground wire, providing complete protection for a fraction of the cost. Call us today. We are the surge protection experts!

Surge Protection has become a much needed improvement for your home or business. Many of today’s latest electronics utilize microprocessor circuits that are very sensitive to any type of surge.

Did you know that most surges occur from within a home or business? That’s right! Each time a motor starts or stops a surge occurs in the electric wiring system. Furnaces, clothes dryers & washers, disposals, refrigerators, A/C units, well pumps, all create small surges that can damage sensitive microprocessor circuits over time. Your electronic investments deserve to be protected so they can provide years of service and enjoyment.

Type 1: Stop Lightning & Major Surges Before They Enter

What it is: Type 1 surge protectors are installed at your main electrical panel (service entrance) and are the first line of defense against large external surges—especially lightning strikes and power grid problems.
How it works: When a dangerous surge hits your home, the Type 1 protector instantly diverts the excess electricity to ground before it can enter your home’s wiring and damage everything connected to it.
Best for: Protecting your entire home, all appliances, HVAC systems, and electronics from catastrophic damage. This is your primary protection and the most important layer.
Why you need it: A single lightning strike can cause tens of thousands in damage. Type 1 protection costs a few hundred dollars and prevents that disaster.

Type 2: Catch Internal Surges at Your Appliances

What it is: Type 2 surge protectors are installed in sub-panels, breaker boxes, or at individual circuits throughout your home. They provide a second line of defense against surges that get past Type 1 protection.
How it works: Type 2 protectors catch mid-level surges and voltage spikes that originate within your home—like when your AC compressor, refrigerator, or other motors start and stop. They also catch residual surges that sneak past Type 1.
Best for: Protecting high-value appliances and circuits (kitchen, laundry, HVAC, well pumps). Ideal for homes with sensitive equipment.
Why you need it: Most surges actually come from inside your home, not outside. Type 2 provides the extra protection your valuable equipment needs.

Type 3: Protect Individual Devices at the Outlet

What it is: Type 3 surge protectors are the power strips and outlet protectors you plug devices into. They’re the final layer of defense at individual outlets and appliances.
How it works: Type 3 protectors catch small voltage spikes and surges at the outlet level, protecting individual devices like TVs, computers, routers, and chargers from damage.
Best for: Protecting sensitive electronics on your desk or entertainment center. Good for devices that are expensive to replace or critical to your daily life.
Why you need it: While not a substitute for Type 1 and 2, Type 3 provides extra peace of mind for devices you care about. They’re affordable ($15-50) and easy to use.
Important: Type 3 alone is NOT enough. You still need Type 1 at your panel and ideally Type 2 at key circuits.
